Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1

Arrive Dali

Transfer to Dali old town. Afternoon: walk the ancient city walls and gates. Evening: the foreigner street is touristy — we take you to the locals' night market instead.

Day 2

Erhai Lake & Xizhou

Morning: Xizhou morning market — Bai minority breakfast (xifan porridge, baba bread). Then the tie-dye workshop in Zhoucheng. Afternoon: easy lakeside ride along Erhai.

Day 3

Shaxi

Drive to Shaxi (2.5h) — the best-preserved town on the old Tea Horse Road. Sideng market square, ancient stage, and an old town where tourism hasn't rewritten everything. Overnight in a courtyard guesthouse.

Day 4

To Lijiang

Morning in Shaxi, then drive to Lijiang (2h). Afternoon: Black Dragon Pool with Jade Dragon Snow Mountain behind it — the classic shot. Evening: Lijiang old town's lanes (we go after the day-trippers leave).

Day 5

Naxi Culture

Morning: Baisha village — Naxi embroidery, the Dabaoji Palace murals. Afternoon option: Jade Dragon Snow Mountain (cable car, 4,680m — weather permitting) or a slower day in Shuhe old town.

Day 6

Shuhe & Departure

Morning: Shuhe old town — quieter, older-feeling than Lijiang. Transfer to Lijiang airport/railway station.

How is this different from a standard "Yunnan tour"?
Standard tours do Kunming–Dali–Lijiang in 4 rushed days with shopping stops. We skip Kunming, add Shaxi, stay in courtyard guesthouses, and include zero shopping stops.
Is the altitude a problem?
Dali (2,000m) and Lijiang (2,400m) are moderate. Healthy adults adjust in a day; we keep Days 1–2 relaxed. Serious heart/lung conditions — check with your doctor.
Can I extend to Shangri-La?
